Lace Up the Skates During a Public Session

Skate laps on the smooth surface of the Jay Lively Activity Center with friends and family. Whether you’re planning a date night or a group outing, don’t miss the thrill of stepping on the rink and soaring across an icy wonderland. Similar to skiing at the Arizona Snowbowl, balance is key. Make sure your knees are slightly bent, palms facing towards the ice, and push off from one of your skates. Instead of running into the barriers of the rink, plant one of your skates behind the blade of the other one, forming a “T,” and halting into a stop.

Practice Your Skills with Skating and Hockey Lessons

Feeling a little wobbly about your skating skills? Fortunately, Jay Lively Activity Center features ice skating and hockey classes for all ages. From skating backwards and aiming a puck towards the goal to practicing jumps and learning a proper hockey stop, the ice skating classes are must-try experiences for newcomers and advanced skaters alike.

Things to Do Before/After Ice Skating

Prepare for your ice skating session by shopping ‘til you drop in downtown Flagstaff and purchasing warm essentials—long wool socks are absolute must-haves for blister prevention!

Along with skating, there are more ways to experience icy and snowy fun in Flagstaff! Grab your favorite ice cream flavor at spots like Flagstaff Chocolate Company or Tulio Crepes. Head to the Arizona Snowbowl and descend beginner-friendly runs amid a snowy paradise.

If you’re hoping to warm up, check out our guide on the top coffee shops in the area. Finally, after a jam-packed adventure, top it off with a soul-nourishing meal at a top-notch restaurant, where you can refuel for your next excursion in Flagstaff.
