With its beautiful, steep-walled canyons and numerous Native American ruins nestled below towering cliffs, Canyon de Chelly National Monument offers visitors the chance to learn about Southwestern Native American history from the early Pueblo to the Navajos who still live in the area. Self-guided rim drives and one self-guided hike. Backcountry tours require a park service permit with an authorized Navajo guide. Open year-round, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. daily. Closed on Christmas.
