Surrounded by ponderosa forest at 7,150 feet in elevation with spectacular views of the San Francisco Peaks, The Arboretum at Flagstaff is a unique destination, specializing in increasing the understanding, appreciation and conservation of plants native to the Colorado Plateau. The Arboretum accomplishes its mission by striving to meet four goals that include:
1. Featuring garden displays that promote the use and conservation of native and compatible plant species
2. Developing educational programs that inspire a passion in all ages towards wise community stewardship of our natural environment
3. Seeking solutions and imparting best practices to protect native plants at risk
4. Practicing and promoting sustainability to build community resilience
Home to 750 species of plants, the beautiful 200-acre property was once the home of our founder Frances McAllister. Today, the grounds consist of historic buildings, gardens, greenhouses, wetlands and woodland trails that are family and pet friendly. The Arboretum also hosts a number of special events, concerts, plant sales, wedding and facility rentals, youth and adult classes as well as features local artist works in our gift shop. As a recent visitor commented, we hope to see you soon:
"The Arboretum is an amazing destination to take top quality pictures, relax in nature and learn more about the native plants and animals of the region. The views are surprisingly great, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the experience is priceless. Please go!"
